To charter a flotilla or bareboat yacht the port authorities and yacht insurers require the skipper to have at least a practical day-skipper certificate or equivalent experience (e.g. to have owned or skippered a yacht previously) and be able to carry out a 'man overboard' manoeuvre under sail. These Learn to Sail holidays will help you obtain the necessary qualification in order to skipper a yacht in Ionian and other non-tidal waters.

Never Sailed Before?

Then consider a cabin charter in the Learn to Sail Flotilla. You can do this as a single or a group on a shared tuition yacht or, if there are four of you, on your own yacht. A two week holiday will give you the opportunity to gain certification that will allow you to sail on other occasions and in other locations i.e. Skipper Certificates (for those aged over 16 years) which demonstrates you can skipper a yacht in a safe and sea man like manner in non-tidal waters in daylight hours. The Non-Tidal Crew Certificate will ensure that you will be a useful assistant in preparation and running of a yacht when at sea and also when ready to enter and leave port. It can be gained by those aged 12 years and above. Cadets (9 to 12 years) can gain the Introduction to Yachting Certificate. Time taken to gain certificates depends on the individual ability and keenness on the part of the individual.

If you feel two weeks sailing, all at once, is too much for a beginner then you can choose to spend your second week ashore enjoying the facilities of the Armonia Hotel.

Some Previous Experience?

Then take a cabin charter on a shared yacht for one week, then sail your own yacht in the flotilla for the second week. If there are four of you, you can have your own yacht for both weeks.

Sailing for Singles

A cabin charter in the Sunvil Flotilla provides the opportunity to learn to sail and, for experienced sailors, an affordable sailing holiday in the company of others, sharing sailing experience.

Note: Yachtsun offer sailing holidays priced per person as retail agent for Sunvil, unlike other Yachtsun holidays they are priced per person and include flights from Gatwick (or Manchester, where a flights supplement applies) to Preveza (Aktion) Airport and transfer to yacht base.

Base/Meeting Point: Hotel Armonia, Nidri, Lefkas Island

Prices quoted are all per person, for one or two weeks and include flights from Gatwick with airport transfer (a flight supplement is charged for Manchester departure). It is a booking condition that you obtain adequate travel insurance. Such insurance ensures that you are fully covered against unexpected cancellation charges, medical expenses arising abroad, loss of luggage & personal liability. Yachts are available for boarding no later than 17:00 hrs day of arrival. All yachts must be returned to the yacht base by 17:00 hrs the evening before the last day of the charter. Disembarkation is at 09:00 hrs on the last day of charter.
